How to Customize App Icons with Shortcuts App

Last year Apple launched iOS 14 with plenty of new features and improved UI. Among several interesting iOS 14 features, the app customization feature is currently in the spotlight. It is true that a lot of iOS users were waiting for this feature, and now when it is available, users can explore how it works. Now you can personalize the home screen of your smartphone’s display, and customizing it with the Shortcuts app is not too difficult. So if you’re willing to learn how to customize app icons using Shortcuts apps, here’s what you must do.

How to Download Icon Pack into iOS Device

In order to give your device’s app icons and home screen a unique aesthetic look, you need to download the icon pack. If you know what type of home screen and app icons you want for your device, then you simply need to visit your preferred website first.

Open your preferred website to download the icon pack in Safari browser.

  • Find and click on the download link in Safari.
  • Open the Downloads section.
  • You can find your Safari downloads in the Downloads folder under Files application.
  • Find the folder that has the downloaded icons.

How to Customize the App Icons in Shortcuts App

After successfully installing your preferred app icons pack, start customizing your device’s home screen as you want. But if you don’t know the procedure, here are the steps for you:

  • Open Shortcuts application on your iPad or iPhone.
  • Press the icon at the top right corner.
  • Click Add Action.
  • Find the Open App option and tap it.
  • Click Choose under script prompt and press the app that you want to open.
  • Click … to make the Details menu appear.
  • Click Add to Home Screen.
  • Click on the text section to set a name of your Home Screen shortcut a specific name.
  • Click on the icon to reveal the menu.
  • Click Choose File in the menu.
  • Find and choose the app icon to use.
  • Click Add.
  • The custom app icon will start to appear on Home Screen.
  • Give your shortcut a specific name in the Details section.
  • Press Done.
  • Over the Create Shortcut tab, press Done to save the shortcut.

This is everything you’ll have to do in order to create a shortcut for your preferred app icon. If you want to create more app icons, you have to follow the same procedure every time.

Conclusion

Using the shortcut when a user will open the app, they will see a shortcut notification at the top side of the screen. Fortunately, this notification won’t do anything and will disappear after three seconds of opening the app. Right now Shortcuts app can do a lot of tasks, but hopefully, in future, it will provide updates to create shortcuts easily.
